Who Are You?

Who am I? David asked this question of God in one way or another on different occasions, Who am I? Who is man? Why do you care so much? David was very humble. He adored and worshipped God. He understood that God loved him and he praised Him even more because David was aware of his personal shortcomings, he also acknowledged that God was too. And so he was authentically appreciative for the mercy of the Lord toward him.

David was living a pretty good life. But God made some more promises to David. David wanted to build a temple for God. He thought so much of the presence Of God and felt that God had done so much for him by blessing him with a great house that he thought the presence of God deserved far greater a house. Even though Solomon, David’s son would build it later, God respectfully declined David’s offer and instead declared greater promise and blessing to David.

I imagine David’s thinking Father you’ve done so much for me already, I just want to do something big for you because you deserve it. 1 Chronicles 17:16, “ And David the king came and sat before the Lord, and said, Who am I, O Lord God, and what is mine house, that thou hast brought me hither? 17 And yet this was a small thing in thine eyes, O God; for thou has also spoken of thy servant’s house for a great while to come; and has regarded me according to the estate of a man of high degree, O Lord God. 18 What can David speak more to thee for the honour of thy servant? For thou knowest thy servant. David is saying in other words, You know me Father and I haven’t been so great of a man and yet you elevate me, you think so much of me, so who am I that you bless me and not just me but my family for generations to come.

David asks the question again in Psalms 8, 4-6 what is mankind that you are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them? 5You have made them a little lower than the angels and crowned them with glory and honor. 6You made them rulers over the works of your hands; you put everything under their feet.” It’s like David is saying you have left your creation in our hands, given us dominion, power and authority. Who are we fragile human beings that are subject to fault that you trust us and care for us so much?

Who are you? Who am I, Who are we? We are Children of the most High God who is a loving and gracious Father. I’m writing with tears in my eyes to tell you family that the Father says you are my beloved…You are my son… You are my daughter…You are the expressed image of me. I do think well of you and desire to do more for you than you can imagine. Just walk humbly before me, repent and repent quickly. Know that your latter days shall be greater. Serve me and worship me with all your heart, soul, and your mind and I will be your security. I will be your Father. I will be your advocate. I will be your defender. I will be your deliverer. I do not go back on a promise. My promises cannot be revoked neither do I change my mind. May we have a heart posture like David, even more a heart posture like Jesus (Son of David, Son of God) toward the Father…. ~ Darshan Nicole
