One Nation Under God. Are We? Under God?

Writer: Darshan NicoleDarshan Nicole

This war cannot be won without God. We as a nation have allowed protest of the Gospel for the sake of not offending people’s personal choices and beliefs yet it is the Gospel that has the answers to societies problems. We choose to offend God instead of defending Him and the righteous law He gave us to govern ourselves by. Does God really need our defending? No not really. Yet He chooses to use us. We are His mouthpiece. In the core of a believer’s soul there should be a yearning to speak on His behalf because He is merciful and gracious, longsuffering. He is wise. He is wisdom. He is love. He is everything good.

The enemy’s objective is to continue to twist and or discredit the power of the Word of God and the Gospel of Jesus Christ. However, 2 Timothy 3:16 says, “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness.” Why would we stray from it as a nation? There is a scripture for every problem we could ever face.

If only our nation’s leaders would declare the Word of God over the news media. Government officials, Community activists, the judicial systems, and news reporters, all of those with the platform to use it for real good. Yet America chooses to silence those who carry the law of truth. Sure, we can say out loud in God we trust and God Bless America, even host a few spiritual leaders to share a few words within a limited 2 to 5 minutes. “In God we trust” But what exactly are we trusting? Are these just words? The trusting is supposed to be in His Word. “ God bless America” We are asking God to bless a nation that tends to reject Him. Yes, rejecting the Word of God is rejecting God Himself.

Why declare scripture aloud? Hebrews 4: 12, “For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.” So just saying we are praying for our nation is not enough. Are we praying the Word of God over it? Every human soul needs piercing and hearts need lifting. Good gestures are temporary, but it is the Word of God that runs deep and is lasting.

We have senseless killings and hatred infecting our society. Police brutality, hate crimes, gun violence perpetuated by many groups black and white alike. Why not declare in the media Ephesians 4: 31, “Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice: 32 And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you?” Why not declare Psalm 68:1, “Let God arise (in this nation) and His enemies be scattered?”

Pastors can and do share in their congregations, but the leaders of this country have the greatest platform. It is not just the churches role. If God gave you a position of authority. You are the mouthpiece of the hour. You represent Jesus in your authority.

Perhaps we do not do so because we do not want to hold the truth at every cost because it makes us accountable and so we alter it to fit our personal and political agendas. We’re all guilty of that in some way or another and that has to change. Nevertheless, the bible is not just a history book, or ancient artifact, it is very much current and well needed right now and always. You cannot lead anything or anybody effectively without it. How powerful would it be to hear our nation’s leaders declare with conviction the real truths that are divinely evident? ~ Darshan Nicole Williams
