Most of us want to obey the call of God, but we need the courage and the discipline to follow through...the faith to follow through. Hebrews 11:1, "Now Faith is the substance of things hoped for the evidence of things not seen”. Courage is the fuel to walk out what you hope for without seeing the whole picture. 2 Corinthians 5:7, “We walk by faith and not by sight.” It takes courage still to do that… What has God mandated of you? What is He by His spirit prompting you to do? What passion has He placed in your heart? Is divine purpose calling you? What is stopping you? What is delaying you? Could it be just courage?
Be strong and courageous. In other words, be empowered and be brave. Deuteronomy 31:6, “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you." Courage. Courage is the choice and willingness to confront uncertainty. Be strong and courageous.
Obedience is better than sacrifice according to 1 Samuel 15:22, so we truly must make it a priority to not just do sacrificial duties but to take care to listen to the instruction of the Lord in real time... What do I mean by real time? I mean in the moment of any given day I am vulnerable and sensitive to the spirit of God for that specific time even if I thought I would do something another way prior to. Hebrews 11:6, “Without faith it is impossible to please God.” We want to please God, so we need the courage to obey. We need an ear to hear. We need eyes to see. Courage plays apart in our hearing because often what we hear we may ignore or turn away from because we lack the courage to hear the truth or hear instructions that we are uncomfortable receiving and executing. Courage to see because we also at times lack the courage to look at whatever may be confrontational, we fear what we may see as a potential risk ahead, so if we keep our eyes closed we think we don’t have to be accountable for what we do not see. Often though the things we choose to shut our eyes too do not go anywhere, they are still waiting for us when we open our eyes again. So, God give us courage to obey you the 1st time. We need courage to make vital decisions. We need courage to say no or yes to some circumstances, to approve or disapprove when necessary.
Make us brave Lord... You have given us an assignment. Help us not to go AWOL. But stay ready on the front lines. To stay on post or to get into the specific post you are maybe even transitioning some of us into. To fight the good fight of faith and to finish the work. One of my favorite scriptures, Jesus says in John 4:34 is, “ my food is to do will of Him who sent me and to finish His work." We want to finish, but we need the courage to obey, walk by faith and finish. I think we must know that we are Beloved of God. He will only lead us in the direction that fulfills His purposes which can only be good. Philippians 1:6, “He who has begun a good work in you will perform it." ~ Darshan Nicole Williams
